Catfish Bridge

Catfish Bridge

I know of a place
away from the race
where no one asks questions
and nothing’s expected
for hours

it requires high clearance
and 4-WD
best not try it wet
be in rocker deep and
winchless

a road into history
dropping dead at the water
memories of towns
dammed for the power and
progress

the breeze off the lake
pulls you up and away
gulls don’t give a care
sharing their space and
the moment

drop a line off the edge
feel the tug of instinct
challenging nature
sweet primal receipt of
the echoes
