Love at Last

I know I can’t be your first love

the one longed for on cold nights

imagined coming to the rescue

thru cracks in broken blinds

but, I want to be your one true love

whose picture’s in your smartphone

shown off on the girl’s nights out

when evening wine starts flowing

I want to be your one true love

the one you see in handsome faces

the touch you crave in lonesome places

the man you want the rest of your life

we regret we can’t have children

and some ancient oaths we’ve taken

all knowing god should understand

the vows we keep and those forsaken

I want to be your one true love

the one you walk with through old age

your granite and a guiding light

as youth filled visions fade

I want to be your one true love

I pray heaven holds a place

where we’ll always be together

merged stars that glow in grace

“I don’t care if I can’t be your first anything
I just want to be your last everything”
