Aces and Eights
  JERRY BROWNING

 ..FOLLOWING SEAS

Aces and Eights

should’ve seen him
all those crazy years
Concord jets were swept
in his wake
everyone wanted to touch him
prove he was real
all tried to predict
his great destiny

his words rang true
compassion and love
his heart felt honest sorrow
for the weary and weak
only flesh
showed him human

whether climbing a mountain
or fighting a battle…
he’d grit groaning teeth
spit in the eye of fear
and everyone followed

now you say he’s sick
incurably ill
how can he fight
what he can’t even see

honor won’t allow
the coward’s way out
Jesus died
for the sins of the crowd
he dies
in the crowds of his sins

biting a lip
he forces a smile
tasting contaminated blood
shamelessly

let the world watch him
walk
the omega mile
only you and i can see
