JERRY BROWNING

AURORA BOREALIS

Midnight Express

as the hourglass seeps empty
in a world that never knew me
beside a broken-hearted woman
I’m confined between the lines

tethered to honor forsaken
and the gaze of wide-eyed children
who ache to heal the injuries
of old conflicts undefined,

the love of my life lies sleeping
dreaming of alternate mem’ries
promises propped in dusty corners
struggling to keep the faith…

God bless her beautiful heart
and soft, sweet whisp’ring kisses
echoing through the still of night
like the purr of a distant train

Murfreesboro, Tennessee '14
