life's left me at the
river's edge
murky water calls my name
tethered to the shifting shore
watching promise drift and fade
lost in the swirling darkness
scorn and sorrow take the lead
like a flailing toothless phantom
entrenched in gargoyled dreams
as panic fogs the mirror
desperation grips my soul
lightning gives a fleeting glimpse,
winds of thunder take control
trapdoor to the great abyss
gives way beneath my feet
now I embrace my memory's face
in a deep and peaceful sleep
