she was the shy one
nobody wanted
when suitors came knocking
she hung in the back
afraid to look up

what's wrong with that one
said the mean kids and ladies
who really weren't looking
at the light in her eyes
and the warmth of her heart

but we took her in
taught her to trust us
and when she looked up
it sure took our breath
by far, the pick of the litter
