Old Jim Crow Road

Old Jim Crow Road

thought we were beyond
the ancient cruelty
and were the last generation
to witness the sorrow
shame en masse
thought we were on
the healing path

but surprise

here we are again
I’d have never guess it
thought we’d laid
those old ways to waste
and learned our lesson

oh god, oh god, oh god
we’ve given them the space
to murder the planet,
to rebuild the glass ceiling
to spit in Martin’s face

using religion as justification
protecting the evil zealots
while we kill and cripple
their beautiful hosts

I’ve lost faith in humanity
maybe I’m the fool
and society is meant to be…
stupid and savage
