I stopped to think today

about myself, those I love
and our place in the world

perpetuation and dreams
falsehoods and faith, but
I accept those things
that don’t make sense

a fool looks back
forgetting the fissures

either trip or deflect
keep moving forward
or lay down and die…
I chose the former

I’m pleased with my life
for the most part

lots of lessons learned,
some hideous scars, but
a few closed doors
opened my universe

so please disregard
the holes in my smile
