leaving Sweden on Midsummer Day
heading back into the modern myth
haunted as I stumble thru the jetway
visions of pretty, blue-eyed angels
with sundressed secrets on their lips
planet rolling out beneath my feet
quaint old cities lost in surrealities
watching the New World’s self-denial
worshipping science for redemption
ceding certain sadness with a smile
America approaches on the horizon
stench of evangelical hypocrisy
greeting the poor with waves of hatred
grieving for advertising dollars wasted
on a meaningless, greedy broken dream
as Mother Earth pleads of mercy’s hand
to stroke and cleanse her withered skin
parents mock and ignore their children’s plea
laughing in the melting face of nature
softly drowning in the rising seas
