Lighthouse Belle
  JERRY BROWNING

 BROKEN COMPASS

Lighthouse Belle

we met in the night
when i needed sunshine
but the glare stung my eyes

closer and closer you drew
a shadow formed
dawn became clear
i learned the difference
of love over lies

we’re an abstract match
i’m a high-strung guitar
you’re a mellow flute
and our harmony’s perfect
rising and falling
yet growing
like Beethoven’s 5th

in the silence of pause
when i think of straying
our music fades
my vision blurs
and i shudder with fear

so i run back
pulling you nearer
as our breath touches
we whisper the truth
