Crescent Moon
  JERRY BROWNING

 BROKEN COMPASS

Crescent Moon

walking at night
with a potential lover
brisk air engulfs
in a tingly aura
gently embracing
‘neath flickering stars

she talks of a man
her last lover’s ways
caution light flashes…
the scene of a fire,
a hand full of ashes
cool’s the rule

she asks how many
lovers i’ve known
destroying the mood…
who’s keeping score
i just file emotions
and search for what’s true

a white crescent moon
shines down on the woods
a slither of light
piercing dark shadows
desiring affection
like a shy child’s smile

i touch her soft skin
pretending i’m blind
seeking her beauty
beyond mere appearance
crickets and toads
play sweet, mellow music

we sit on a log
hands warmly clasped
tight electricity
pulses through
trembling knees…
i gaze in her eyes
and with the test of a kiss
inhibitions spin free
