Thanatos Lullaby
  JERRY BROWNING

 BROKEN COMPASS

Thanatos Lullaby

the trees are bare
bowing, embarrassed
snowflakes fill the air
sewing a blanket
for the frozen brown fields

ominous gray
pushes down from the sky
cold wind whispers…
sleep precious earth
let the young ones rise
on this night
the longest night

Houston, Texas ‘83
